Dutasteride is a new 5-Alpha-reductase inhibitor being developed for treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. A total of 4323 patients have been enrolled in three large phase ¢óstudies for up to two years followed by a two-year open-label extension period. It was estimated that 3500 subject-year of saftety data were completed at the time of the 120-Day Safety Update. Dutasteride inhibits both types 1 and 2 5-alpha-reducatases.

What is dutasteride?
Dutasteride prevents the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the body. DHT is involved in the development of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Dutasteride is used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men with an enlarged prostate.
Dutasteride may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.
